One of the great masters of America cinema, John Ford is probably best known for his John Wayne westerns. This collection, however, is Wayne-free and runs the gamut of genres, showing the diversity and genius of the legendary director. Lost Patrol (1934) features Victor McLaglen and Boris Karloff as British soldiers trapped by Arab snipers at a Mesopotamian oasis. Ford won the first of his four Oscars (McLaglen won too) for the Irish Civil War drama The Informer (1935). The collection also includes Mary of Scotland (1936), with Katharine Hepburn; Sergeant Rutledge (1960), an unflinching look at the legacy of race in America; and Cheyenne Autumn (1964), Ford's final Western.
