Description

Winner of four Academy Awards, including Best Picture, director Hugh Hudson's 1981 film debut tells the inspiring true story of runners Eric Liddell (Ian Charleson) and Harold Abrahams (Ben Cross), who brought Britain one of its greatest sports victories at the 1924 Olympics. Colin Welland's Oscar-winning script focuses on divinity student Liddell's faith in God and secular Jew Abrahams' faith in his own ability to rise above class prejudice and anti-Semitism. Ian Holm earned an Oscar nomination as Abrahams' trainer; the soaring Oscar-winning soundtrack by Vangelis went on to dominate TV and radio airwaves for the rest of the year.
