Description

With a blend of Latin, bebop, and Afro-Cuban tunes, vibe master Cal Tjader and a cadre of all-stars perform all-time Latin classics like "Manteca," "Afro Blue," "Cubano Chant," and "Tumbao" as well as the lovely ballads "If You Could See Me Now" and "Speak Low," the latter done as a samba. "Only 'Summertime' has been released before so we have a real treat…. [Buddy] DeFranco drives the opening Gershwin classic tune and bop choruses mix with Guaraldi and Tjader’s tight teamwork. It’s easy to see why this 15-minute track was released commercially. Bird’s 'Now's the Time' gets the Tjader treatment next and again DeFranco brings to mind Benny Goodman…. This is a real find and a true opportunity to experience a vibe superstar."—Audiophile Audition "This anthology drawn from Cal Tjader's memorable sets at Monterey should be considered essential for fans of Latin Jazz."—All Music Guide
