The epitome of the Piedmont-style bluesman, Brownie McGhee (1915–1996) had a long and fruitful career—both together and apart from his harmonica-playing parter, Sonny Terry. "You've got to stay true to yourself," he said in an October '73 Guitar Player cover story. "My definition of the blues is 'truth.' Blues is my life, my living, my joy, my everything." That joie de vivre is apparent in this 1985 recording, the ten tracks of which are full of his trademark power and vitality. Among them are "Don't Abuse Your Woman," "Facts of Life," "When the Wind Blows," "Blues Had a Baby," "Ease of Mind," "Sap Sucker," and "Let Me Go."
