Composer and banjo picker Tony Ellis was interviewed by none other than comedian/actor Steve Martin in last July's issue of The Banjo Newsletter. Martin—a big fan—talked with Ellis about his influences and about how his style has evolved from the early 1960s, when he spent two years with Bill Monroe & His Blue Grass Boys. Ellis's music, which also combines elements of old-time fiddle tunes, 19th-century parlor music, minstrel, Celtic, and ragtime—was featured on Ken Burns' Baseball series. These 18 tracks are replete with representative Ellisonian delights, including "Pretty Little Waltz," "Paint Creek," "Fox Hunter's Reel," "Downtown 5th Street Rag," "Mama Juana," "Going to Town," "Northwest Territory," "Silver Dollar," and "My Freedom Home."
