Some of the most beautiful and emotionally expressive music ever written is contained in the operas of Mozart, and an impressive sampling is heard in these excerpts from various Deutsche Grammophon recordings. Bryn Terfel is Figaro ("Non più andrai, farfallone amoroso"), Anne Sofie von Otter is Cherubino ("Voi che sapete"), and Dawn Upshaw is Susanna ("Deh vieni, non tardar"), with James Levine conducting; Terfel is the Don and Cecilia Bartoli is Zerletta, his prey, in "La ci darem la mano" from Don Giovanni; tenor and soprano superstars Juan Diego Flórez and Natalie Dessay sing arias from the early opera Mitridate, rè di Ponto; and Gundula Janowitz, Brigitte Fassbaender, and Rolando Panerai sing the rhapsodic trio "Soave sia il vento" from Così fan tutte under Karl Böhm.
