Appearing in her last movie, Judy Holliday reprises her Tony-winning Broadway role as an irrepressible switchboard operator who can't help getting involved in the lives of her customers, in this 1960 film adaptation directed by Vincente Minnelli and costarring Dean Martin as a struggling playwright who falls in love with her. Holliday's then-boyfriend, saxophonist Gerry Mulligan, makes a brief appearance as a blind date. The film's songs, by Betty Comden, Adolph Green, and Jule Styne, include the hit numbers "Just in Time" and "The Party's Over." André Previn received an Oscar nomination for the film's soundtrack.
