German composer Markus Schmitt (b. 1965) likens the tonal landscape of his Echoi for violoncello and piano to "a high mountain chain with glittering fields of snow and jagged rock formations." In it, he explores the acoustical phenomenon of reonance and reverberation. Anna-Maria Bogner takes the lead in niedere Minne for soprano, flute, viola, and harp—a work that refers whimsically to the alba, or morning song of courtly love. This wide-ranging collection also includes a setting of the French poems of Meret Oppenheim (Quelle belle femme) and several pieces for solo piano and piano trio.
