|
|
In his first big-budget film from 1959, Steve McQueen costars with Frank Sinatra as O.S.S. combatants leading Burmese Kachin guerillas (the same ethnic group currently persecuted by the government of Myanmar) against Japanese occupiers in WWII. Gina Lollobrigida, in her first Hollywood film, plays the mistress of Paul Henreid's war profiteer, but she quickly warms up to Sinatra's character after he is wounded. Lending strong support are Peter Lawford, Brian Donlevy, Richard Johnson, and Dean Jones, as well as newcomers James Bronson and George Takei.
